Success is
contagious at T. G. Smith, that is our motto and our parents are the
“secret of our success!” The doors at Smith Elementary are always
open to our parents. Parents are involved with numerous projects:
mentoring students, organizing parties and fund raisers, maintaining
our Parent Center, watching over our school, and assisting teachers
with clerical work.
Parents
are welcomed as they enter our school by our Safegate Mom as she
attends the desk at our Parent Center. Safegate Moms perform an
abundance of tasks for teachers and students as they assist visitors
in signing in and operate the Parent Center. Students at Smith love
to be sent to the Safegate desk to read or work!
Smith
Stallions are so fortunate this year to have 39 parents actively
involved in our Mentoring Program. Parent mentors meet with Smith
students at least once a week for an hour. During this time
students are able to get help with a specific area of academics as
well as be encouraged and uplifted by the individual attention that
a mentor can provide. Our teachers are raving about the difference
that they are seeing in children that have mentors. We always have
room and a need for more mentors! If you are interested in
participating in our mentoring program, please contact our school.
Smith
Stallions are absolutely spoiled by our homeroom moms and parents
that work so hard to make all of our class parties and AR parties so
special. Parents meet together to plan ways to make the most of
each of our special celebrations.
Our
Watch D.O.G. Dads work at school helping with the traffic flow.
After having their picture made with their child for our “Wall of
Honor” they are handed a “rigorous” schedule that includes a lot of
fun and energy! Watch D.O.G. Dads are assigned to assist students
in different classrooms throughout the day along with specific times
to patrol the school grounds and take care of various chores from
the office. It is just like having a dad at home during the day,
some days the list is longer than others! Dads are treated to a
special school lunch with their child and allowed to play during
recess time with 100 other children.
Parent
volunteers work with teachers on special projects throughout the
week. We have parents in each grade level that assist teachers
weekly copying papers for homework packets and class work, allowing
teachers to spend their planning time, planning for instruction and
working with individual students.
One of
the most important ways that parents at Smith Elementary support our
school is by helping their child each evening with homework.
Students in grades kindergarten through fifth grades take homework
folders home each evening along with reading assignments. Smith
parents assist their children each evening with the responsibility
of completing these assignments.
P.T.A. at
Smith Elementary ties our parent involvement up into one beautiful
package. Parents are given many opportunities to serve our school
and students through the numerous activities sponsored by our
fabulously active P.T.A.
On any
given day at Smith Elementary parents can be found throughout the
school. Smith Stallion students and faculty salute our parents for
their involvement in our school. You are the reason for our
success.
Thank you!
